The RBA Group, through our architecture department, has provided design and management programs for correctional facilities that include master planning, feasibility studies and needs assessments, modular correctional housing programs, architectural design, interior planning, and renovation. Our architects, supported by our civil engineers, provide site programs that address environmental issues, surveying, parking, drainage, access, and buffer zones to adjoining properties.
The Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders hired The RBA Group to provide architectural services to the thirteen-story Essex County Jail and Courts complex. The complex includes the jail and converted powerhouse, prisoner holding area and a courts building which houses 27 courtrooms and the offices of the Prosecutor, Sheriff and Probation Department.
The RBA Group provided architectural design services for the Essex County Women's Detention Facility for a new 252-bed facility using modular construction. The facility includes processing, administration, and medical facilities as well as day rooms and recreation space. The housing consists of a combination of dormitory and single-bed units. Modular construction is a solution that combines economy, speed and quality with adaptability.
We have also provided master planning and architectural services for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections for the assessment of the state correctional facilities. Our architects surveyed more than 15 state facilities in order to provide a current report of existing conditions.
