A full study of the original placement, design intent, design style and strategy can be undertaken by means of historical photos and archive plans. This background work is important to fully appreciate the original layout and to incorporate its designer's philosophy into the current play of the course given advancement of maintenance practices, the ability of the player and modern golf equipment. Beyond this, a bunker style should be selected and faithfully followed throughout the remodeling program for continuity reasons.

A well conceived bunker program should include the provision for the installation of new drainage, sand, topsoil, sod and irrigation (where necessary). As part of an improvement plan, typically some new irrigation lateral lines, wires, heads and fittings may need to be adjusted or reinstalled adjacent to these features. Today, approximately 8 out of 10 of our clients elect to install bunker liners as part of the bunker improvements. Reshaping, upgrading and improving bunkers can be the single most aesthetic, strategic and functional enhancement to the golf course.

Newly renovated bunkers offer the most eye appeal of any course feature improvement.
