The Cultural Resource Unit at RBA performs a full range of archaeological services to guide clients through the processes that ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local laws governing archaeological sites. All levels of service are offered, from background studies to determine site potential through full data recovery excavation of significant sites that are subject to adverse effects of undertakings. Projects have included studies of small development sites, examinations of corridors for roadway improvements or bike path development, and complex evaluative treatments of large urban areas. We regularly conduct evaluations of sites of all sizes for both prehistoric and historic archaeological potential, and have particular expertise in historical and industrial archaeology.

Our professional staff meets or exceeds Federal and State qualifications for the performance of all levels of evaluative work and mitigation. Clients include private developers, municipalities, county governments, and state agencies. Examples of projects include Phase 1/2 evaluations and Phase 3 excavations of historic rural farmsteads and prehistoric settlement sites; background documentary studies and archaeological examination of historic sewerage and water supply facilities; full evaluative studies for bicycle-pedestrian paths through areas with historic and prehistoric site potential; background studies and archaeological testing of large urban project sites; evaluation of large and small rural tracts for diverse goals such as park planning, golf course development, and cell tower siting.
